Junior analysts gather the facts, test the numbers and draft the credit memo before a corporate loan goes for review. BNP Paribas plans AI agents to help prepare that memo.
If the first draft takes less time, managers can raise the number of files each analyst handles. That is the pressure employees need to watch.
The credit memo is the first target
BNP Paribas and Google Cloud say their five-year agreement will support planned AI agents in Corporate & Institutional Banking. Preparing corporate credit memos is the first named use case. BNP has given no rollout date or time-saving figure.
A credit memo brings together a borrower’s business, finances and risks. Collecting evidence, drafting the case and spotting gaps take analyst time. Faster preparation could change how many files the team is expected to handle. People still have to check the work and make credit decisions.
First drafts and junior jobs are exposed
An agent could take on routine research and first drafts while analysts handle more files and harder exceptions. Managers could demand more output from the same team. These are possible effects of the plan, not staffing decisions BNP has disclosed.
New analysts also need to learn how to challenge weak numbers and build a credit case. Ask who will teach that work if the tool writes the easier drafts.
The review burden stays with employees
BNP says connected agents will have limited access to its systems and their actions will be monitored. Those controls do not tell analysts how to verify a missing risk or a wrong figure in a draft. Ask whether the output shows its sources, who signs off on corrections and whether review time is built into the file target.
Junior analysts learn by finding gaps in the borrower’s case. If a tool assembles the easier memos, new hires may see the work only at the checking stage. Managers need to explain which parts of credit writing remain in training and who has time to teach them.
Sales, trading and research are next on the list
BNP also named sales, trading, research and structuring for further applications, without specifying their tasks. Employees on those desks should ask what the bank plans to test and what output it expects afterward.
Gemini will also enter LLM@CIB, the existing assistant available to more than 65,000 employees. That number counts access to the assistant. BNP has given no user count for the planned credit agents.
Watch the file target and the hiring plan
When a pilot reaches your team, ask which steps the agent will prepare and how many files each analyst will handle. Record the exceptions you resolve without taking confidential client material.
