People are leaving. Openings are closing too.
Lightspeed told The Canadian Press that the changes are intended to simplify operations and create room for customer growth and product innovation. For employees, the immediate consequences run in two directions: colleagues lose employment, and some positions people might have applied for disappear.
A smaller list of openings can narrow an internal escape route during a reorganization. Employees considering a move should check that a role is accepting applications before building their plans around it. Keep an external search moving alongside any internal application.
Sales and content staff have already felt it.
BetaKit reported former employees in content and sales describing layoffs. These functions help explain and sell the product, so a move towards profitable growth can still remove people doing growth-related work.
For colleagues who stay, watch what happens to customer handovers, campaign deadlines and account responsibilities. If those duties land with fewer people, the risk becomes a larger job under the old expectations. Set out the changed responsibilities and seek a review of targets and compensation.
The earlier cuts did not finish the reset.
In a July interview with BetaKit, CEO Dax Dasilva described roughly 100 job cuts to improve efficiency. CFO Asha Bakshani said 10% of product and technology jobs had been cut. Dasilva also said the company continued hiring. October’s reporting now identifies departures in sales and content alongside vacancies being closed; hiring can continue in other parts of the business.
A stronger quarter did not settle staffing.
In its July 30 results for the quarter ended June 30, Lightspeed reported revenue of US$322.7 million, up 6% as reported and 17% organically. The organic measure adjusts for the Upserve disposal. Lightspeed recorded a US$2.4 million net loss and repurchased approximately US$86 million of shares. Revenue growth and a smaller loss have still been followed by another role reduction.
A narrower strategy can shrink your options.
Lightspeed’s published strategy concentrates on retail in North America and hospitality in Europe. Watch for products being combined, customer accounts moving and responsibilities crossing between teams. Our HubSpot management-cuts coverage examines another software company reshaping its teams.
| If you see this change | What it could mean for you | A practical response |
|---|---|---|
| Several customer accounts change hands at once | Relationship knowledge and unresolved issues can be lost | Agree on customer priorities and realistic handover time. |
| Your role now covers another product or market | The skills and targets of the job may have changed | Get the expanded role, training and pay review into the same discussion. |
| An internal opening is withdrawn | A planned transfer may no longer be available | Recheck alternatives and continue external applications. |
November 5 needs clearer answers.
Spokesperson Stéphanie Princivil told The Canadian Press that more information would accompany the next results. The company calendar sets the fiscal second-quarter 2027 earnings call for November 5, 2026, at 8 a.m. ET. Employees need the split between departures and closed vacancies, the affected locations and a clearer explanation of the new organization.
Listen for whether delivery and sales targets change with the staffing decisions. A plan to reinvest in products leaves an important practical question: which commitments will the remaining teams still be expected to deliver? Follow the 2026 layoffs hub for the wider company coverage.
Protect your next paycheque.
- Keep a personal career record of projects, sales results or customer outcomes you can substantiate. Use public examples and your own experience; leave company documents and customer data with the company.
- Apply for roles that match the work you want to keep doing. Compare the responsibilities and conditions before accepting another job built around a broad title.
- If a departure offer arrives, take time to review the written terms with a qualified adviser. Check salary, commissions, benefits and any deadlines against the arrangements covering your employment.
Quebec employees can check CNESST’s collective-dismissal guidance. It covers qualifying departures affecting 10 or more employees at the same establishment within two consecutive months. Applicability depends on the actual departures and employment circumstances at that establishment.
