What is happening with tech layoffs?

Technology layoffs can involve announced job cuts, smaller management structures, voluntary exits and positions that are not replaced when people leave. An employer may hire for AI or another priority while reducing roles elsewhere.

This guide brings selected reporting together so you can check the company, role, location and date. A proposed cut, a buyout offer, a net headcount decline and a completed layoff are different facts. The article dates below show the age of each example.

Big Tech, cloud and global employers

Tech layoffs, company by company.

Microsoft layoffs, Oracle layoffs, Amazon layoffs and Meta job cuts can describe very different actions. Start with the named business and the evidence in the dated reporting.

COMPANY / 01

Microsoft layoffs

Microsoft, Xbox and its global businesses

Buyouts, restructuring and headcount

Most recent selected article:

Microsoft layoffs and voluntary exits raise different questions. Our coverage follows buyout eligibility, Xbox and commercial restructuring, the company’s headcount outlook and AI investment. An offer to leave does not establish how many employees will accept it.

For an employee, the useful distinction is between the program announced, the teams included and the later staffing decisions that remain open. Keep the offer date and business unit attached to every claim.

A useful question for your team

Is my team included, what happens if I stay, and which deadlines apply to my own written offer?

COMPANY / 02

Oracle layoffs

Oracle and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI)

Cloud roles and restructuring evidence

Most recent selected article:

Oracle layoffs coverage includes cloud developers, programme managers, infrastructure teams and the company’s restructuring provision. Our reporting separates a document covering a named organisation from claims about Oracle’s worldwide workforce.

Cloud growth and employment decisions can move in different directions. Check whether a figure describes one division, a country, a proposed action or completed departures before comparing it with another Oracle report.

A useful question for your team

Which Oracle organisation and location does this report cover, and what does it establish about my role?

COMPANY / 03

Amazon layoffs

Amazon Stores, corporate teams, AGI and AWS context

Team cuts, WARN notices and AI roles

Most recent selected article:

Amazon layoffs span different businesses and types of work. Our coverage examines Stores support, retail engineering, corporate restructuring, Washington notices and cuts in an AI organisation. A warehouse action and a corporate reduction should keep their separate scopes.

Look beyond a combined headline total. The useful questions concern the affected team, funded transfers, closed vacancies and who takes responsibility for the work after colleagues leave.

A useful question for your team

Is there a funded role to transfer into, and which responsibilities end if the team gets smaller?

COMPANY / 04

Meta layoffs

Meta Platforms, including its Facebook and Instagram businesses

Team design, AI plans and selection questions

Most recent selected article:

Meta layoffs reporting covers team restructuring, AI-assisted work and the way performance and selection decisions are explained. Reported internal proposals, a company’s response and allegations in a lawsuit establish different things.

A smaller-team proposal is not a confirmed layoff count. Our articles identify the status of the evidence and the questions employees can ask about ownership, evaluation and expectations after a reorganisation.

A useful question for your team

What has changed in my team’s approved structure, responsibilities and written performance criteria?

COMPANY / 05

Google / Alphabet layoffs

Alphabet, Google Cloud and cybersecurity teams

Reported cuts and financial context

Most recent selected article:

Google layoffs coverage includes reported cybersecurity and Google Cloud cuts, alongside Alphabet earnings and AI infrastructure spending. The financial analysis explains business pressure; it does not identify the next team that will lose jobs.

Keep the employer, product group and location clear. Growth in Google Cloud, a change in total headcount and a reported cut in a named team answer different questions about employment.

A useful question for your team

Which of my team’s projects and vacancies remain funded, and who now owns its budget?

COMPANY / 06

Apple layoffs

Apple management, Siri, AI and Vision Pro coverage

Management changes and changing skills

Most recent selected article:

Apple layoffs reporting examines management roles, Siri and Vision Pro work, and changing product priorities. The coverage connects the roles being removed with the responsibilities and skills employees are being asked to take on.

A possible internal move needs a defined position, manager and application deadline. Hiring for new capabilities does not establish that an existing role will carry into the next structure.

A useful question for your team

Does my role carry into the new plan, and what is the actual deadline for an internal move?

The companies behind your working day.

Explore Dell, HubSpot, UKG, Workday, ServiceNow, Salesforce, Intel and Cisco. These reports examine engineering, product, management, sales and support work, with clear distinctions between job cuts and changes to existing roles.

COMPANY / 07

Dell layoffs

Dell Technologies, engineering and sales

Headcount, severance and team capacity

Most recent selected article:

Dell layoffs coverage connects engineering and sales decisions with severance disclosures, AI server growth, hiring restraint and Project Maverick. A change in total employee numbers includes hiring and departures; it should not automatically be labelled a single layoff event.

Our reporting also examines no backfill and return-to-office pressure. The practical test is whether your team still has the people, approved vacancies and priorities needed to deliver the work assigned to it.

A useful question for your team

If a position disappears, is its work removed, reassigned or left with the remaining team?

COMPANY / 08

HubSpot layoffs

HubSpot management and product teams

Management layers and product ownership

Most recent selected article:

HubSpot layoffs coverage examines the announced reduction, a flatter management structure and the reorganisation of product work around customer outcomes. Strong financial results and a redesigned organisation can exist at the same time.

Our reporting distinguishes the overall implementation timetable from an individual employee’s notice or application deadline. The company’s AI strategy is also kept separate from evidence of direct replacement of a particular job.

A useful question for your team

Who owns my team’s work in the new structure, and is my position included in that plan?

COMPANY / 09

UKG layoffs

UKG, Ultimate Kronos Group

Restructuring and employee preparation

Most recent selected article:

UKG layoffs reporting examines restructuring, private equity ownership, AI investment and the employee questions around severance and changing responsibilities. The article provides a dated account rather than a current headcount counter.

Employees should distinguish a public business strategy from the notice and terms that apply to their own position. Team capacity, reporting lines and the ownership of recurring work are useful matters to clarify.

A useful question for your team

What is changing in my function, and which responsibilities and written terms apply to me?

COMPANY / 10

Workday layoffs

Workday Product and Technology; Employee Speaks

Product and technology restructuring

Most recent selected article:

Workday layoffs coverage focuses on Product and Technology restructuring and the impact on teams that remain. The reporting follows the company’s disclosures; Employee Speaks adds a separate discussion of employee experience and workplace pressure.

A division named in an announcement does not supply a complete job-title list. Read the stated scope, then ask how product ownership, internal opportunities and delivery expectations apply to your own team.

A useful question for your team

Which product responsibilities remain funded, and where will my position sit after the reorganisation?

COMPANY / 11

ServiceNow layoffs

ServiceNow engineering, customer teams and AI hiring

California notices and global restructuring

Most recent selected article:

ServiceNow layoffs reporting includes California notice records and the company’s wider restructuring, alongside hiring for AI capabilities. Local notice figures and global announcements have different scopes and can overlap.

Use the dated reporting to understand the affected functions. A new vacancy elsewhere in the company is useful context, but it does not establish that a departing employee has a funded internal alternative.

A useful question for your team

Does the new role match my skills, location and transfer window, and is the position actually approved?

COMPANY / 12

Salesforce layoffs and AI jobs

Salesforce, Agentforce and redesigned work

Role redesign is distinct from a layoff count

Most recent selected article:

Salesforce coverage examines Agentforce and work being redesigned around AI in functions including HR, support and sales. A count of people in redesigned roles is not a count of employees laid off.

The useful employee question is how responsibilities, performance measures, training and accountability change. Read company claims about productivity alongside the actual staffing evidence.

A useful question for your team

What am I now expected to deliver, which tasks have changed, and what training and support are funded?

COMPANY / 13

Intel layoffs

Intel data centre and engineering coverage

Reported team cuts and unconfirmed totals

Most recent selected article:

Intel layoffs reporting examines changes in the data centre business and the questions engineering employees face around product priorities and staffing. The article identifies when a cut count remains undisclosed.

Demand for AI infrastructure does not by itself establish the staffing plan for every product or business unit. Look for a funded roadmap, an approved reporting line and specific decisions affecting your team.

A useful question for your team

Which products and engineering responsibilities are still funded, and who owns the next staffing decision?

COMPANY / 14

Cisco layoffs

Cisco networking, infrastructure and corporate teams

AI infrastructure and workforce changes

Most recent selected article:

Cisco layoffs coverage examines workforce reductions alongside demand for AI infrastructure. Company growth and an employee’s place in a changing organisation need to be assessed separately.

For an affected function, the useful evidence concerns the role, business unit, timing and transfer options. Order growth alone cannot tell you how leadership will structure the team delivering it.

A useful question for your team

What does the new structure require from my function, and which positions are approved to do that work?

Your job title matters as much as the company name

Which tech and IT roles does the coverage examine?

A company-wide percentage rarely tells an employee what happens to their own position. Use the named functions and the underlying documents to narrow the question.

Engineering and IT

Software, cloud and infrastructure

Our Oracle, Google, Intel and ServiceNow reporting examines developer, cloud, security or infrastructure work. A product described as a growth priority can still have its own staffing changes.

Ask which projects, support commitments and approved vacancies remain.

Management and product

Layers, ownership and team design

HubSpot, Apple, Workday and Meta coverage examines management structures, product responsibilities and smaller-team proposals. A flatter organisation changes who makes decisions and who inherits the work.

Ask who owns your function, budget and performance review in the new plan.

Sales and support

Customer work and corporate functions

Microsoft, Amazon, Salesforce and Dell coverage looks beyond coding jobs. Corporate and customer-facing teams can be affected by restructuring or changing expectations for AI-assisted work.

Ask how workload, targets, training and accountability will change.

IT layoffs extend beyond technology companies.

Information technology teams also sit inside banks, retailers and media businesses. The right evidence may be in coverage of the employer’s wider restructuring.

AI layoffs, restructuring and the work left behind

What is changing around the job cuts?

A useful explanation follows the evidence for each employer. Several business changes can happen together without sharing one cause.

01 / Investment choices

AI spending and staffing

Follow what management says about investment and roles. Spending on infrastructure or AI tools does not, by itself, prove that software replaced a particular employee.

02 / Organisation design

Fewer layers and different skills

A company may remove a management layer, combine teams or recruit for different capabilities. Check what was approved, what remains a proposal and which positions are actually affected.

03 / Team capacity

No backfill and inherited work

Closed vacancies and unfilled departures can leave a team smaller even without a new large announcement. Ask which commitments will be reduced when capacity falls.

Before you share a number or make a decision

Read the evidence behind the headline.

The most useful report tells you what happened, where, when and what remains unknown.

  1. Find the action and the date.Separate an announcement date, expected departure date, consultation period and accounting period.
  2. Check the company, team and location.A local notice, one department’s document and a worldwide company disclosure cover different populations.
  3. Identify what the number measures.Eligibility, proposed reductions, completed departures, closed vacancies and net headcount change are not interchangeable.
  4. Read the original source where available. The linked reporting identifies company statements, filings, public notices and attributed reporting, with limits and unresolved questions.
  5. Bring the question back to your role.Ask for the approved reporting line, responsibilities, funded opportunities and deadlines that apply to you.

Questions employees ask

Tech layoffs and IT job cuts, explained.

Start with the evidence. Keep the answer tied to your company and role.

What is the difference between tech layoffs and IT layoffs?

Tech layoffs are job cuts at technology companies, including corporate and non-technical positions. IT layoffs are cuts to information technology roles, which can sit inside banks, retailers, media companies or technology firms. The company, role and location matter more than the label.

Where can I find Microsoft, Oracle, Amazon or Meta layoff coverage?

Use the company links at the top of this guide. Each section connects selected dated reporting with a short explanation of its scope and a question employees can ask about their own team. The articles contain the fuller evidence and source links.

Are AI investments causing every technology layoff?

No. Companies may cite restructuring, management layers, costs, changing demand or a new skills mix. AI investment and job cuts can happen together without proving that AI directly replaced each affected position. Read the company statement and the evidence for the specific action.

Does a buyout offer mean everyone eligible will lose their job?

No. Eligibility describes who can consider the offer. Actual departures depend on participation, approval and the program’s terms. An announced program, accepted offers and compulsory layoffs should be reported separately.

Is a fall in headcount the same as the number of layoffs?

No. Headcount is a workforce balance at a stated date. The change between two dates reflects hiring and departures and can also be affected by acquisitions, disposals or reporting definitions. Use a separately sourced layoff figure when counting a specific reduction.

Why can a company hire while laying people off?

Hiring and reductions can affect different skills, teams, locations and business priorities. A vacancy does not by itself establish that an affected employee can transfer into it. Check approval, eligibility, location and application timing.

Does this guide cover Canadian, US, UK and Indian technology jobs?

It includes reporting on global employers and location-specific actions where our articles provide evidence. A US notice does not establish a Canadian, UK or Indian total. For technology roles inside banks, the banking and Canadian banking guides provide another route into the coverage.

Does this page update automatically or predict the next layoffs?

No. This is an editorial guide with selected dated reporting and a visible review date. It does not predict specific cuts. The separate Layoff Tracker + Corporate Stress Index follows public employer pressure signals, while the free Weekly Layoff Intelligence Report explains changes each week.
